Realizing that he was so close to falling to the Dark Side, Matta gave Freedon one final test that would seal his fate forever. Unwavering, Matta told Freedon that he was no Jedi, for he had to prove to her that he was. Igniting his lightsaber, Freddon lunged at Matta and began his attack. Matta followed suit and easily defended Freddon's attempt at her. The battle was easily one sided; Freedon was no match for Matta's lightsaber proficiency, and had a hard enough time just defending himself against her.

But then, Matta made a slight miscalculation, one that Freedon Nadd could exploit. He brought his lightsaber around in an arc in line to slice through Matta Tremayne. Matta looked as the lightsaber came around, but she ignored it, and instead stared straight into Freedon Nadd's eyes. As the lightsaber came down, Freddon saw in Matta's expression a sense of calmness and acceptance, and a strength Freedon never noticed. Realizing that he had failed Matta's test, he tried to angle the lightsaber away from her, but it was too late. The lightsaber passed through her, and Matta Tremayne, Jedi Knight and Master, disappeared, and became one with the Force.
